We have chosen The Brain Tumour Charity and the Wigmore Hall Trust as two charities Tim would have loved to support. The Brain Tumour Charity for obvious reasons, but also as Dad was heavily invested in scientific research, and I (Catherine) will be running a marathon for this charity in Autumn 2025. The Wigmore Hall Trust is Daniel’s choice, as it was a venue Dad visited on countless occasions, and brought him great joy. We would be grateful if equal contributions could be made for each charity in his legacy.
The Brain Tumour Charity is the largest dedicated funder of research into brain tumours globally. Dad was always fascinated by scientific research and would support the incredible research that this charity carries out. Dad was personally affected by a Grade 4 Glioblastoma Brain Tumour diagnosed in May 2022. He received treatment through a major brain operation, chemotherapy and radiotherapy and fought the tumour for 30 months until passing on 24 November 2024.
We are continually grateful for the information and services that are provided by the charity, including their resources online that provide comfort and support, and counselling services that provide support to people with lived experience of brain tumours/and or care for loved ones with brain tumours.
I am a Young Ambassador for the Charity and will be running the Berlin Marathon in 2025 in Dad’s legacy. Donations made to the Brain Tumour Charity will contribute towards my fundraising due to officially launch next year.
We also chose The Wigmore Hall Trust as the Wigmore Hall was one of Dad’s favourite places. It is an intimate chamber music hall that attracts the most respected musicians worldwide to perform recitals. One of Dad’s favourite parts of the year would be receiving the brochure with all the concert listings, and he would put a star next to each one he wanted to attend and I would check my phone to see 20 notifications after, each saying ‘how about this one?’!
Any donations to the Trust would not only support the institution as a whole, but also increase support for their outreach programmes. This enables accessibility to younger audiences, through reduced ticket prices and visibility. Furthermore, the Trust performs many workshops in the wider community, including musical workshops for those with Dementia. I know Dad would have been so pleased for a musical charity to be supported in his memory, and we feel that this is the perfect one in gratitude for the many hours of joy it brought him.
